Questioning India’s dangerous growth based on fossil fuel and providing alternatives for a sustainable and equitable development, Why New Coal – A film by Ekta Kothari and Vinay Jaju (Switch ON).

India is facing severe multiple crisis's because of our misconception of growth and development (being fuelled by fossil fuel). There is a huge price communities across india are already paying because of the use of coal, and as coal demand increases to sustain our unsustainable lifestyle – the stakes are very high in the future. The film highlights the misconception we hold about our extractable coal availability, unravels the social and economic costs of coal – and puts forward key questions about who this coal is benefiting – in times of a climate emergency, food and water crisis.
