Dear fellows,
recently, I came across www.ecocho.com which is a search engine using yahoo servers (google canceled participation after initially supporting the project) . ECOCHO promises to plant trees for every 1000 web-searches that users do from their website. Test it, and maybe you would like to change your start-up page in your web-browser to ecocho.com and use it more frequently, instead of "googleing" through the www.
As soon as "ecocho", yahoo or google results reveal that the ecocho-t…

5 June 2008 - World Environment Day 2008 Guides the Global Public Towards Climate Neutrality. People in the developed world, as well as some rapidly developing countries and cities - from Manchester and Manhattan to Moscow and Mumbai - can start right away to "Kick the C02 Habit", the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) says. Some quite simple measures can more than halve the daily emissions of an individual, with even bigger cuts possible if sectors like power suppliers and…

Hey friends,
I just read about the new search machine:
http://www.ecocho.com/
This should be an alternative to Google, since for every thousand searches they commit to plant up to 2 trees.
What "up to" means and if makes the search engine carbon neutral I do not know.
Please test it and tell me what you think.

I believe that the world's energy crisis can only be solved via the integration of power generation sources based on the geo-politico-social location of a country and energy conservation. Technological and energy source limitations are the least of the problem. Big countries will either have to adapt or go to war against countries with natural resources. Going to war against countries with natural resources will definitely not solve the problem but will only postpone the problem as we all know t…

Climate change and biodiversity
Which impacts does the change in climate caused by human activity have on ecosystems and species composition? In which ways is your region afflicted by climate change? Can species just migrate to some other place, or are they bound to go extinct when their habitat becomes unsuitable for them? In this workshop we'll discuss the relationships between climate change and biodiversity.
On the edge…

Hey friends,
Another busy day in Bali. Fortunatly it is moving forward. Since today the heads of states negotiate on the Bali Roadmap, which should be something like an actionplan for coming to a final agreement at last in 2009. Sounds theoretic, uh?
Today the convention centre was packed with people and the security tried to keep people off the red carpet area for the ministers. Between the different meetings I was running around in a paradise-like landscape of superb beaches a…

There is a lot of exitement about a potential mechanism which would gratify the reduction of deforestation emissions called REDD (reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation). It is actually the topic I was working on the last couple of years. It is good to see that this is of the agenda of policy makers and scientists in Bali, since defo…

i've somehow lost the entry that I just made somewhere on our biofuels-discussion. Gladly, I copied it, so here is my short comment on the topic... thanks for spreading the WEB-HINT and for your comments!! Johho
for sure bio-fuels are a very ambivalent topic: the dilemma is that
sooner or later, the world economy will depend on it to replace fossile
fuels. fuels from temperate plants seem to be as bad for the climate as
fossile fuels, while the demand for fuels from tropical planta…

The following article was published in todays' Sueddeutsche Zeitung (Wissen). To sum it up: According to Paul Crutzen (Max-Planck-Institute

corn and canola cultivation in order to produce biofuels (biodiesel and
bioethanol) cause more damage to the climate than fossil fuels. Canola
fuel has a 1.7, corn a 1.5 factor to climate damage (in comparison to
the savings of CO2 from fossil fuels). Ac…
