Funny, I feel as if you were part of one of our many conversations late nights in Jerusalem. To be part of the education system is pretty amazing stuff! Really kind of a dream. Well in Jerusalem the education system, sadly, is a bit more part of the problem rather then part of the solution. It really keeps the situation like it is instead of helping people ask questions. In our work the "sense of belonging" was a very strong motive. We would work in different circle. Inner- to be connected to one self and to take responsibility on one self, family- to know our own history and to look at the parents as a source of knowledge and not as old people, what is a very big problem with immigrant kids, and all of Israel are immigrant kids.., and then the community. The environment is only natural, when someone cares about his surrounding people it is only natural to care of nature and for the next generation. Well if it sounds relevant I will be happy to write a bit over different projects we did in our work with this different circles.
Ooh I forgot to say, my name is Ray, I'm 24 years old and worked with a group of friends for 4 years in one of Jerusalem many "problematic" but amazing communities, I mainly worked with youth but other friends worked also with older people, if this in any way relevant for you I would be happy to share. Well have an excellent day.
Your experience sounds very interesting and sounds a bit like the things we would talk about back in Jerusalem, the very strong connection between poverty to poor education system to ecological problems, and that the environment and the way people treat it will not be fixed before we fix the life of people... What exactly did you do? How would you strength the sense of belonging? And why does it lack in the first place?
I planned to welcome you but it came out as an interview:)
