The network for young environmentalists

Sara Svensson

UNEP governing council/global ministerial environment forum

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will hold its Governing Council in Nairobi, Kenya, 16-21 February.

I will be there together with some other youth representatives from all over the world. We are in the process of preparing a children & youth statement that will be handed out in written format as well as presented orally to all the environmental ministers, government officials, UNEP staff and other participants.

If you have ideas of what should be included in the statement and speech, what burning environmental issues we should highlight, what we should lobby for... please feel free to share your input with me, and there's a great chance that it will be raised in Nairobi!

Greetings,
Sara (sajosve@gmail.com)

Attached is a draft children and youth statement. Give your feedback!
Now I'm working on the speech, which will be more direct and radical. How does that sound to you? Share your input!

Hello,
here some calls to the biomass topic. My english isn't perfect, feel free to rephrase or specify it:
1. Stop using biofuels first generation, especially rapeseed with its high NO2 emissions.
2. Use biomass for the most efficient way of energy supply, like cogeneration of warmth and electricity...
3. Use crop-rotation systems with two or more crops per field and year and leguminous crops to reduce the need of nitrogen fertilization and increase the soil.
4. Don't clear forests for cultivating energy crops, start a sustainable wood use.

Greetings,
Sebastian
